Aljoscha: Reinvigorated, Rejuvenated
From March 21 in the Katharinen-Kirche at Burg Bentheim in collaboration with gopea-kunstraum.
"Reinvigorated, Rejuvenated" is an installation by Ukrainian-Russian artist Aljoscha. Born in Glukhov (Ukraine) in 1974, Aljoscha has lived in Düsseldorf since 2003. Over the years, he has developed his own style of art, which he calls bioism or biofuturism. Its central idea is the utopian design of future beings, which serve as living material for his artistic work. Thus, in the media of drawing, painting, sculpture and spatial installation, he creates biomorphic entities that he releases into the world as models of as yet unknown life forms.
Aljoscha also follows this approach in his installation in the Katharinenkirche at Burg Bentheim. The bioistic beings made of acrylic glass float in the air and create a connection between the two different parts of the room, the darker front room with gallery and the light Gothic choir. At the same time, they enter into an exciting visual dialogue with the most important art-historical exhibits in the church interior, the "Lord God of Bentheim", an early Romanesque stone sculpture of the crucified Christ created between 1000 and 1050, and the double-sided Madonna sculpture hanging from the ceiling by the Münster sculptor Evert van Roden from the early 16th century. With its transparent forms and predominantly pink and violet colours, Aljoscha's futuristic-looking installation, as the title says, has an invigorating and rejuvenating effect on the centuries-old architecture, making it possible to experience it in a completely new way.
